Mission: To light a Million Homes by 2018


The program is initially sponsored by the MyShelter Foundation which is led by Illac Diaz, developed a system of sustainable reliability through its capacity building and job creation program. The introduction of the innovative social enterprise concept in the Philippines, coupled with the appropriate technology and alternative building materials, has taken the lead in implementing this program:  the Pier One Seafarer’s Dormitory, the Design Against the Elements (DAtE) competition, and the Bottle School Project.

Isang Litrong Liwanag (a liter of light), is a sustainable lighting program, the purpose is to make environment friendly solar bottle bulb and to promote in the community. Originally designed and developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) students, the Sunbok Bottle Lamp uses the most basic process technology, which provides a simple and convenient replication technology that meets the basic needs and is used to develop the community.

The project "A Liter of Light" not only slows the accumulation of plastic bottles, but also facilitates the recycling and reusing of  resources, applied with the free solar energy, cleverly solves the electricity burden of low-income households.
After the project promoted by the MyShelter Foundation and local government and departments, more and more people and families in the Philippines accept the concept and install the solar bottle bulbs.

24 And More Countries Are Implemented

After several years, the project expands to Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Egypt, France, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Spain, Switzerland, Tanzania, Uganda, United States, Zambia.
